Year 9 Student into digIT Program

Congratulations to Jorja, in our Year 9 Nova program, who was successful in her application to attend the digIT program in 2019.  Jorja was one of the 120 students selected across WA and SA to apply, of which only 60 students are then selected to attend.

digIT is a program (funded by the Department of Education and Training) designed to introduce students with potential to algorithmic thinking, coding and other aspects of ICT and to encourage the continuance of ICT studies in senior secondary school and at tertiary level. It combines two residential camps, held at the University of Western Australia,  with a mentoring program over a six-month period.

Well done Jorja!

Shakespeare is Dead Incursion

On Thursday the 9th of August, students from year 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 Drama and select English classes were treated to a performance of “Shakespeare is Dead” by Bell Shakespeare Theatre Company. The play was a fun, educational look at the impact Shakespeare has had on the world of theatre and how his plays still influence us today. From modern stories to the language we use in everyday life, Shakespeare was made relevant for a new generation. Alex, Will and Mary formed the ‘three man show’ who brought Shakespeare's stories to life and through audience participation and improvisation; they made Shakespeare anything but boring.

The play was an amazing experience for students, teachers and actors alike. Being entertained whilst also being educated on how Shakespeare has influenced plays, stories and speech was wonderful. We’ve learnt Shakespeare is everywhere in our society and we are the better for it.
