HASS will be running activities through the week with special guest speakers ending with a Cultural Dress Up along with food and music on Friday 18 June.

Please remember to bring your gold coin donation which will go towards school ground improvements.

The Year 10 Information Night will be held on Tuesday 15 June at 6.00pm for a 6.15 start in the Library.

As part of Reconciliation Week, we held a Reconciliation Afternoon Tea at our Kalyakoorl Ngoorndiny Boodjar (Indigenous Garden) on Tuesday, a Wear Yellow Day on Thursday with a gold coin donation (tied-in with Mabo Day) and we also ran a colouring-in competition all week. Wear Yellow Day raised just over $250! We are so proud of our wonderful community here at Lakeland Senior High School.

Nutha Way workshop

"On Wednesday, our Indigenous students had the opportunity to work with Millennium Kids, to look at the underlying issues that lead to fare evasion, aiming to break down barriers and build relationships between young Indigenous people and PTA Transit Officers.

Nutha Way is a new program presented by Right Track that brings together local Indigenous young people, elders and community stakeholders to develop a youth-led strategy, helping young Indigenous people understand legal impacts.

Throughout the day, students designed innovative ways to solve problems, met the WA Wildlife team from Native Arc and learnt about identifying risks and risk management through a reptile handling workshop.

Once an issue was recognised within their community, students identified opportunities for change and designed solutions to overcome the problem. They worked within teams to create a series of solutions that look at Education, Behavioural Change, Design and Innovation, Community Actions and Rules and Regulations. Miss Valentine and I are extremely impressed with how our students conducted themselves throughout the day. They did Lakeland proud!"

The Centre Manager, Marketing Manager and Assistant Marketing Manager of Cockburn Gateway Shopping Centre visited Lakeland Senior High School to engage in collaborative partnership talks, to further strengthen our community.

Thank you Alexandra, Donna and Madison for accepting our invitation. Donna was a former student of ours and it was wonderful to see another success story come out of Lakeland Senior High School.

Did you know that Lakeland Senior High School is the only high school in WA that offers Department of Education Approved Specialist Music Technology and Specialist Touch Football Programs? 

Congratulations to our Student Support Officer, Ali Cope and our Year 9 Academic Coordinator/Drama Teacher, Renee Cuthbertson for each being recognised by the Department of Education with a Making a Difference Award.

Ali was recognised for making a difference in our school by building strong and nurturing relationships.

Renee has received an award for making a difference to our school community with her work in providing a voice (and safe space) for some of our most vulnerable students and her work in the area of Indigenous education.

Both Ali and Renee are very well-deserved recipients of this award as they both have a positive impact on our school.
