The Lakeland Legal juggernaut took to the Supreme Court again last night for Round Two of the Law Societies Mock trial. After winning their first round against Willetton SHS earlier in the year, they were pitted against an eager Rockingham SHS.

Lakeland Legal took to the stand to defend their client, who, according to a Landlord, had neglected to pay rent and had accrued somewhat of a debt! Lakeland Legal worked hard on the premise that as there was no formal written agreement between the Landlord and the client, therefore their client was innocent and not liable to pay the outstanding rent. Unfortunately, the Judge didn’t see it that way and awarded the case to Rockingham by the narrowest of margins - 2.3%...Oh so close Lakeland Legal!

Well done team 👏 A fantastic effort again and hats off to Ms. Waller and Ms. Pike for giving up their time to make this happen.

Good luck for Round 3….in a few weeks.

National Volunteer Week 2021

"National Volunteer Week (NVW) is Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteers. From Monday 17th to Sunday 23rd May 2021, NVW will celebrate the significant contribution of Australia’s almost six million volunteers. Each year these volunteers dedicate over 600 million hours to help others. The theme for NVW 2021 is Recognise."

To celebrate National Volunteer Week, our Chaplain organised a morning tea for our EdConnect volunteers, to thank them for their invaluable contribution towards our school. A scrumptious spread was prepared by our talented Home Economics team and it went down a treat!

EdConnect has had a partnership with Lakeland SHS since 1998. There are currently 14 wonderful volunteers working across our school.

Last week, the United Nations sent Youth Delegate, Lucy Stronach, to LSHS to be part of the largest face-to-face consultation of young people in AUSTRALIA.

The central question was, “What would Australia look like if young people were the key drivers of decision making?” Our students were bursting with contributions towards the discussion. They clearly demonstrated that they have collected well informed thoughts and a mature understanding about the world around them. The significant issues that were raised included:

  • The impacts of social media on young people
  • The global pollution issue
  • Youth mental health
  • The future of education in schools
  • Corporate greed and capitalism
  • Racism
  • Bias in news
  • Sexism

These were the issues identified by our bright students, not the adults in the room.  Massive thanks and top effort to our students for presenting their understanding of the world to one of the world’s biggest institutions that is trying to forge social progress.

SPECIALIST MUSIC TECHNOLOGY

On Friday, our Specialist Music Technology Program went out to Caralee Community School. All the students performing from years 9 to 11 enjoyed performing in front of all the primary school kids and had a blast vibing to songs including Don’t Start Now, Jump and Valerie. They also included some of the year 5 & 6 students in a small music workshop where they learnt Never Gonna Give You Up or played around with the Launch Pads.

The music students are so thankful to the wonderful audience at Caralee who were so engaged during the whole performance.
