The Lakeland SHS Music Technology Program is renowned as a benchmark for excellence in music technology and contemporary music production. This cutting-edge program is specifically designed to nurture the next generation of recording artists, producers, and music industry professionals. By leveraging the latest music industry technologies, students selected into this prestigious program will gain hands-on experience in creating, producing, and performing music. The program enables students to experience the many facets of music in an environment in which they feel safe, supported and inspired. It also equips them to be at the forefront of music technology by developing critical creative thinking skills to allow them to become the innovators of tomorrow.
Specialist Music Technology
Our comprehensive Year 7-12 program caters to both academically-inclined and vocationally-focused students with a strong passion for music and/or its underlying technologies. Through a holistic approach, students will delve into all facets of the modern music industry, including:
- Performance: developing stage presence and musical skills
- Recording: capturing high-quality sound in our professional studios
- Sound editing: enhancing audio for film and music applications
- Music mastering: refining tracks to perfection using industry standard hardware and software
- Information technology: applying digital tools to create, produce, and distribute music
The education pathway has been firmly established through to a Certificate IV in Music (Performance). This is an exciting opportunity for students to receive an automatic ATAR of 70 by studying Music in Year 11 and 12.
Beyond the classroom
Our Music Technology Program offers a rich and immersive experience that extends far beyond traditional classroom learning. Essential extracurricular components include regular workshops, rehearsals, and concerts that foster collaboration, creativity, and performance skills, annual projects that challenge students to produce a high-quality music album and organize a major community music event, developing their production, management, and promotional skills.
In addition, our program provides unique opportunities for students to learn from industry experts and professionals in the field. These include:
- Workshops with successful recording artists, musicians, songwriters, and industry professionals, offering insights into the latest trends, techniques, and best practices
- Additional tuition for instrumentalists and vocalists, tailored to help them refine their craft and reach new heights of musical excellence
