Social Emotional Learning (SEL)

SEL is important because it equips students with the tools, they need to navigate the complexities of life both inside and outside the classroom. Research shows that students who participate in SEL programs demonstrate improved academic performance, better emotional regulation, and stronger interpersonal skills. SEL also helps reduce behavioural issues and promotes a positive school climate, fostering an environment where all students can thrive.

Lakeland Senior High School - Social Emotional Learning

At Lakeland Senior High School, we have structured our SEL program to best suit the developmental needs of our students with:

  • Year 7-8 – Kaartdjin
  • Year 9-10 – Social Emotional Learning
  • Year 11-12 – Advocacy

Our Program Coordinators deliver targeted SEL lessons that address the specific needs of each year group. These lessons are designed to be engaging and relevant, helping students apply what they learn to real-life situations.

In addition to classroom instruction, we offer a variety of activities and programs that support SEL, including wellness workshops, peer mentoring, and community service projects. Our dedicated staff, including our school nurse and psychologist, provide additional support to ensure the emotional and mental well-being of our students.

We are committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment where every student can grow academically, socially, and emotionally. By embracing SEL, we prepare our students not only for academic success but also for a fulfilling and balanced life.
